Why save your 2FA setup key?
A 2FA setup key is a unique identifier that usually looks like a string of letters and numbers* and is used to create 6-digit verification codes.
Saving the setup key is the only way to restore 2FA! If you ever lose your phone, reset it, or delete your 2FA app, you'll lose access to your 2FA verification codes. In this case, you will need to enter your saved key in your 2FA app to get your two-factor authentication back.
- Keep the key in a safe place;
- Avoid taking screenshots of the key;
- Do not share the key with third parties.
*A setup key can also be scanned from a QR code.
