Bitcoin address types

Even within the same blockchain, addresses can have different formats. For example, Bitcoin has several address types. They differ in format, fees, and compatibility. By default, NC Wallet uses a Legacy address, but you can change it.

P2PKH (Legacy) — the classic format.

  • Starts with: 1. The oldest Bitcoin address format.
  • Fees are higher than SegWit.
  • Works everywhere, with all wallets.
  • Use it if you are exchanging BTC on older platforms or sending to very old addresses.

P2SH (Wrapped) — the wrapped format.

  • Starts with: 3. Supports more advanced features.
  • Medium fees.
  • Supported by most services.
  • A good choice for everyday use.

P2WPKH (SegWit) — the modern format.

  • Starts with: bc1.
  • Typically lower fees than Legacy addresses
  • Supported by most modern wallets and exchanges.
